VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
MEMBERS OF THE ELECTORAL COMMISSION OF NAMIBIA
The Director of Elections hereby announces vacancies of five members of the Electoral
Commission in accordance with Section 5 of the Electoral Act (Act No. 24 of 1992), as
amended. These members will be appointed, on a part time basis, for a period of five
years.
Members of the Electoral Commission are collectively responsible for directing,
supervising and controlling, in a fair, impartial, transparent and professional manner, all
electoral processes in Namibia.
Each member is expected to have:

thorough knowledge and understanding of the Namibian politics, history, cultures,
and issues and trends relating to democracy and elections in Namibia in particular
and in the SADC region and other parts of the world in general;

a sense of integrity, independence of mind, and original and critical thinking in
the execution of their onerous electoral duties;

firm commitment to the principles of fairness, political neutrality, and equality of
all before the law; and

irreproachable professional standing

extensive experience and outstanding acumen in conflict resolution, negotiation
and mediation.
Members of the Electoral Commission shall be expected to attend meetings of the
Electoral Commission at least once a month during electoral off-season and more regularly
